It provides light so we can see, it is similar to the flashlight. It is different from a flashlight because the handle lets you hang it on things. Then you will have two hands free which will allow you be able to do more things. This is why I like the lantern. It is useful for camping and hide and seek in the dark and more. So when you go camping next time or play hide and seek in the dark make sure to bring a lantern.
